This week in watch releases, things are colorful, slightly confusing, and just a touch condescending.
MB&F adds a regal purple finish to its HM8 Mark 2-previously seen in white, green, and blue-continuing its streak of bold design and jaw-dropping prices. At $88,000, it’s a conversation starter with a dash of science fiction.
Meanwhile, Blancpain continues its quest to tell women what they want with the Fifty Fathoms Automatique “Her Way.” Yes, it’s a 38mm dive watch, and yes, it comes with mother-of-pearl dials and dainty marketing language
. Available in titanium ($18,500) and pink gold ($34,600), it feels more like a corporate boardroom idea of femininity than something actually designed for modern watch-loving women.
Greubel Forsey, always the mad scientist of haute horology, shrinks down its GMT Balancier Convexe to a more wrist-friendly 42.9mm (from 46.5mm), adds a power reserve, and tosses in 73 extra components for good measure.
Only 22 pieces exist, and while the price isn’t officially listed, assume it’s somewhere north of your net worth.
Seiko, never one to shy away from a pop culture nod, celebrates the 50th anniversary of Jaws with the SRPL81 Prospex
. It features a wave-pattern dial with a subtle great white shark breach-but don’t squint too hard. At $795 and limited to 5,000 pieces, it’s a nice collectible even if the movie tie-in feels a little forced.
Finally, Zenith rolls out titanium editions of the Defy Extreme Diver and Defy Revival.
The Diver brings a robust, futuristic build at $12,600, while the Revival leans into its vintage charm with a new bracelet style for $8,200. Both look like they were designed by a robot with a lemonade addiction, and we mean that affectionately.
Tell us what you think-preferably in a tone more casual than Greubel Forsey’s pricing.
