New Mega Pokémon Revealed for Pokémon Legends: Z-A

The excitement around Pokémon Legends: Z-A just reached new heights with the reveal of the game’s fresh take on Mega Evolutions. Confirmed during today’s Pokémon Presents broadcast, the upcoming game promises to breathe new life into the franchise’s beloved Mega Evolution mechanic.

Launching on October 16 for both the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, the game returns players to the Kalos region, where they’ll encounter new and returning Mega Pokémon.

In addition to the expected Mega Evolutions like Mega Kangaskhan, Mega Absol, and Mega Charizard X, the new title introduces Mega Dragonite as one of the standout new evolutions. While the addition of these new forms was anticipated, the twist comes from the setting of the game. Unlike Pokémon Legends: Arceus, which took players back in time to the Hisui region, Pokémon Legends: Z-A takes place in the present day, making it harder to add entirely new Pokémon entries to the Pokédex. But fear not-Mega Pokémon offer an innovative solution. These evolved forms do not need to be assigned a new Pokédex number, making them a perfect fit for the game’s story.

Players will join Team MZ, a group of heroes dedicated to protecting Lumiose City from the shadowy Rust Syndicate. Along the way, they’ll meet a colorful cast of characters, including fashion designer Naveen, dancer Lida, and your player character’s customizable partner, either Urbain or Taunie. The game will feature both day and night cycles, allowing players to catch Pokémon during the day and compete in the Z-A Royale at night, where they can rise through the ranks using their captured creatures.

In addition to the main story, which centers on the mysterious Rogue Mega Pokémon and their sudden Mega Evolutions, players will encounter side quests involving characters like Emma, the city’s top detective, and Mabel, the director of the Pokémon Research Lab. These interactions provide more opportunities for players to explore the city and help out its quirky residents.

With new allies, new Mega Evolutions, and a host of other gameplay features, Pokémon Legends: Z-A is shaping up to be an exciting entry in the Pokémon series. Fans are eagerly speculating on which other Pokémon may receive Mega Evolutions, and whether the game will include other surprises in the months leading up to launch.
