Rumors surrounding a limited edition Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition have surfaced, thanks to a leak from X user Zuby_Tech. According to reports from Game Sandwich, this special edition headset may be available as soon as Tuesday, June 24. The Xbox Edition will feature a sleek black and green color scheme and come with several accessories, including an Elite Strap, an Xbox wireless controller, and a three-month Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription.
Internally, it will carry the same 128 GB storage as the standard Meta Quest 3S, with a retail price of $399.
This move follows Meta’s April 2024 decision to open its operating system to third-party hardware makers, a strategy that has sparked speculation about future VR devices. ASUS had previously announced plans to create a high-performance ROG VR headset, though details remain scarce. Along with this announcement, Meta confirmed the release of a limited edition Xbox-branded Meta Quest, reinforcing Microsoft’s strategy to integrate Xbox services across various platforms.
Microsoft has been steadily working to bring Meta Quest users into the Xbox ecosystem, with Xbox Cloud Gaming becoming available on the Quest in late 2023. This feature allows Game Pass Ultimate subscribers to stream games on their Meta Quest, experiencing them on a virtual 2D screen at 1080p and 60fps. Despite the lack of native Xbox VR games, this is part of a larger initiative to make Xbox accessible on every device with a screen capable of running games-be it TVs, smartphones, or VR headsets. Although the Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition might not revolutionize the gaming world, it’s a strategic step in Microsoft’s broader vision to reach as many players as possible.
