Mark Zuckerberg has been known for making high-stakes bets in tech, most famously sinking $46 billion into the metaverse-a project that, as we all know, has faced significant struggles.

Now, however, Zuckerberg is doubling down on AI with a major hiring spree, bringing in experts from some of the most influential companies in the industry, including OpenAI, Apple, and even Google’s DeepMind. The recruitment strategies have been bold-Meta reportedly lured one former OpenAI employee with a massive signing bonus of $200 million. Even more staggering, another employee revealed they were offered a signing bonus worth $100 million, though Meta has yet to confirm the exact figures.

Interestingly, the new hires at Meta’s Superintelligence Labs come from a highly diverse background. While half of them are from China, 75% hold PhDs, and 70% of them are researchers. Meta has actively sought out talent from OpenAI (40% of the team), Google’s DeepMind (20%), and other tech giants like Scale (15%). Despite the impressive resumes, most of the new hires have been at the company for less than a month.

The salary packages are rumored to be astronomical, with employees potentially earning between $10-$100 million per year, though this number remains unverified. This hiring spree, however, has raised concerns in some quarters, particularly regarding the involvement of so many Chinese nationals. As the U.S. government continues to scrutinize foreign influence in the tech sector, it’s possible that Zuckerberg and his team will face questions about the security implications of these hires. It remains to be seen how the Trump administration, or any future administration, will handle this situation, but it’s clear that Meta is betting big on AI and its Superintelligence Labs.
