The latest report from The Game Business, which includes insights from Ampere Analysis, reveals the player statistics for several big game releases in June. While some titles have been met with tremendous success, others have struggled out of the gate.
Let’s take a look at the current player numbers for these games, with MindsEye, FBC: Firebreak, Dune: Awakening, and Rematch being the key titles of focus.
MindsEye has had a particularly rough launch, with the game currently sitting at just under 250K players. Around 150K of those are on PlayStation, while the Steam numbers are much lower, with only 35,000 players. The launch has been marred by severe technical issues, prompting many players to request refunds on PlayStation. Moreover, the developer, Build a Rocket Boy, has announced potential layoffs of up to 100 employees as part of efforts to recover from the rocky release. Despite releasing hotfixes, the game has become the worst-reviewed title of 2025 so far. Its unique user-generated content platform, one of its main selling points, is only accessible to a small fraction of its player base. It’s unclear if the studio can turn things around, especially given the current state of the game.
FBC: Firebreak is also struggling, though its numbers are better than MindsEye’s. The game has around 1.3 million players across all platforms, but a significant portion of these are from Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus subscriptions, meaning they may not convert into direct sales. On Xbox, the game has just under 800K players, while PlayStation has 541K players, and Steam lags with only 54K players. Remedy, the developer, remains committed to improving Firebreak, despite the underwhelming start. They expressed excitement about upcoming updates, stating on X, “We know there is still a lot of work ahead of us, and we are super motivated about it. We have a lot of exciting things cooking for Firebreak players! More about that soon.”
Dune: Awakening, on the other hand, has seen success, with its player base surpassing 1.2 million, following a report from Funcom. The game has benefited from positive reception and strong engagement, signaling a successful launch. Meanwhile, Rematch has gained considerable traction, especially on Xbox due to its availability on Xbox Game Pass, with 1.58 million players. The PlayStation and PC versions are also performing well, with 800K and 1.1 million players, respectively. The game’s developer, Sloclap, is looking forward to adding crossplay support, which could further boost player numbers.
Peak, an indie hit from Aggro Crab and Landfall, has surpassed 2.2 million players in its first week, proving that indie games can still compete in today’s crowded market.
