Things aren’t looking great for MindsEye, the debut game from Build A Rocket Boy. After launching to overwhelmingly negative reviews and becoming the lowest-rated game of 2025 on Metacritic, the studio has confirmed a slowdown in future updates and a delay to its most anticipated content-an Agent 47 Hitman crossover.
The mission, once slated for July, has now been postponed indefinitely.
In a recent post on X, the developers wrote, “We apologise that the release of the Hitman x MindsEye Mission, originally scheduled for July, has been postponed to a later date.” No replacement date was offered, leaving fans uncertain about whether this crossover will ever see the light of day.
The lack of updates isn’t surprising. Build A Rocket Boy is currently facing layoffs, which the studio subtly acknowledged by saying that updates “may be less frequent” moving forward. For a game still struggling to fix its core issues, that’s a worrying sign.
MindsEye’s troubles didn’t start at launch. The game’s rocky path was marked by leaked early builds, dismal previews, internal executive exits, and bizarre claims from a former co-CEO blaming internal “saboteurs” for its failures. Since release, things haven’t improved much-PlayStation players received refunds, technical problems persisted, and the narrative and gameplay have failed to resonate with audiences.
Despite these issues, the studio has tried to patch the game, and some minor improvements have been seen. But for many, it feels too little, too late. Unlike CD Projekt RED, which successfully redeemed Cyberpunk 2077 thanks to its strong core story and substantial resources, Build A Rocket Boy is a young studio with limited funding and an unproven track record-even if it’s backed by Rockstar veteran Leslie Benzies.
The big question now is whether the studio can survive long enough to redeem MindsEye-or whether this troubled title will mark the end of the road for Build A Rocket Boy.
