Mojang’s iconic sandbox game, Minecraft, has long been known for its classic pixelated graphics, but all that is about to change with the release of the Vibrant Visuals update.
Minecraft Vibrant Visuals Update Finally Enhances the Game’s Graphics
While the game was never designed with visuals as its primary selling point, this highly anticipated update brings a new level of graphical quality to the game, though only for players using compatible devices.

Starting with the latest Chase the Skies update, Minecraft now boasts more vibrant visuals, available on PC and a select range of consoles and smartphones. However, it’s important to note that not all platforms are eligible for the upgrade. Specifically, Minecraft’s Java Edition will not be receiving the visual overhaul, leaving some players disappointed.

The Vibrant Visuals update is accessible on the main Minecraft: Bedrock Edition on devices like PC, PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and specific Android and iOS devices. If you’re playing on an older console or device, such as a PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or an older Android phone, you will need to manually enable the Vibrant Visuals option through the game’s video settings menu. However, Mojang warns that performance may degrade on these older platforms, so proceed with caution.

On PC or smartphone, players must meet certain tech specifications to enjoy the updated visuals. For Android, devices with Adreno 640, Mali-G68, Mali-G77, or Xclipse 530 GPUs are required, while iOS players will need devices with at least an A12 or M1 chip. Additionally, players on PC must have Minecraft running on DX12 for the new visuals to function properly.

The Chase the Skies update also introduces exciting new features to the game, such as ridable Happy Ghast creatures in the overworld and the ability to create resource-transporting caravans using chains of camels. A new Player Locator HUD bar makes it easier to track down friends while exploring. However, players should note that certain features, like splitscreen multiplayer and custom worlds and texture packs, are not yet supported with Vibrant Visuals.

As for the Nintendo Switch, there’s no mention of compatibility for the Vibrant Visuals update. Fans are left wondering if Mojang has any plans for the Switch or its potential successor.

On a more positive note, Minecraft is now officially Xbox Series X/S optimized, five years after the console’s launch. This finally fulfills Microsoft’s long-standing promise to offer a graphical upgrade for Minecraft, which was first teased in a 2017 trailer for the Super Duper Graphics Pack – a project that was ultimately cancelled. While this update may not be exactly what was originally promised, it’s a significant step forward for the game’s visuals on modern hardware.
