Motorola is reportedly gearing up to launch a high-end phone, but not until 2026.
If you’ve been feeling like the Edge 60 lineup is missing something, here’s the news-unfortunately, it might be more bad than good for some. There’s a strong possibility that the Edge 60, Edge 60 Stylus, Edge 60 Pro, and Edge 60 Fusion won’t be getting an Ultra model anytime soon.
While the absence of any official leaks regarding the Edge 60 Ultra has been pretty telling, tech insider Evan Blass suggests that an Edge 70 Ultra is definitely in the works. We don’t know much about the device just yet, but it could bear a close resemblance to the leaked vanilla Edge 70 that surfaced last month. That said, don’t expect this new model until next year at the earliest, which raises the question-why the premature rumors?
What’s also curious is the apparent lack of plans for a successor to last year’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 3-powered Edge 50 Ultra. Instead, the Edge 60 Pro, featuring the MediaTek Dimensity 8350 chip, will likely reign as the top-tier device in the 2025 lineup. There’s also a chance that Motorola might surprise us by releasing the Edge 70 and Edge 70 Ultra later this year to take on competitors like Apple’s iPhone 17 and Samsung’s Galaxy S25 FE.
While it’s unlikely, a launch this year would certainly spice things up in the mobile landscape. Motorola could potentially return to a two-model US launch strategy, similar to their earlier approach, after the Edge (2024) and Edge (2025) landed without any higher-end Plus versions. But then again, given Motorola’s unpredictability, anything could happen. For now, we’ll have to wait to see how this all plays out.
