Chinese Animated Phenomenon Ne Zha 2 Gets English Dub with Michelle Yeoh in Voice Cast
The groundbreaking Chinese animated film Ne Zha 2, which recently became the highest-grossing animated movie of all time, is set to receive an English-language release this summer. A24 will bring the film to audiences across the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand starting August 22. This version of the film will be available in premium formats such as IMAX and 3D, allowing fans to experience the visual magic in full force.
The film tells the story of Ne Zha, a young hero born to mortal parents but burdened with uncontrollable powers. Feared by gods, Ne Zha faces an ancient force bent on destroying humanity. To save the world, he must rise above his challenges and become the hero that destiny demands.
Adding even more star power to the film, Academy Award-winning actress Michelle Yeoh will be part of the English-language cast. While her exact role remains under wraps, Yeoh expressed her excitement for the project. “I’m honored to be part of Ne Zha 2, a landmark in Chinese animation and a powerful reminder of how universal our stories can be,” she shared. “Sharing this with audiences in English is such a joy, and I can’t wait for everyone to experience the wonder, heart, spectacular artistry, and magic of this film on the big screen.”
Ne Zha 2 debuted in China in January and quickly skyrocketed to the top of the global box office, earning a staggering $2.2 billion on a modest $80 million budget. The film has claimed multiple records, including the highest-grossing non-English language film of all time and the highest-grossing animated film, surpassing hits like Inside Out 2 and The Lion King. Its success even eclipsed Star Wars: The Force Awakens for the title of highest-grossing film in a single territory, achieving this feat in just 11 days.
CMC, a Chinese media company, will collaborate with A24 to bring this exciting cinematic experience to even wider audiences, with the official announcement being made at the Beijing International Film Festival in April.
