Netflix’s Live-Action Solo Leveling Series: All the Details You Need to Know

Netflix is set to bring a new level of excitement to its anime lineup with a live-action adaptation of the hit series Solo Leveling.

Starring Byeon Woo-seok, best known for his role in Lovely Runner, this adaptation promises to deliver a thrilling, action-packed experience for fans.

Announced officially on Netflix’s website, the series will follow Sung Jin-woo, a low-tier E-rank Hunter who unexpectedly gains powerful abilities after a near-death encounter. As he levels up, he evolves into humanity’s greatest defender against monstrous creatures emerging from mysterious Gates. Byeon Woo-seok will take on the role of Jin-woo, a character who goes from an underdog to the world’s last hope. While additional casting details are yet to be revealed, Netflix has expressed strong confidence in the project, claiming it will set a “new standard” for live-action adaptations.

Netflix also promises that the live-action Solo Leveling will feature vivid characters, dynamic action sequences, and exhilarating quests, with a top-tier global VFX team working on the visual effects. Co-directed by Lee Hae-jun and Kim Byung-seo, the duo behind films like Castaway on the Moon and Ashfall, the series is produced by Kakao Entertainment and Sanai Pictures.

The original Solo Leveling began as a web novel by Chugong on KakaoPage in 2016, before becoming a massively popular digital comic. The anime adaptation, which premiered in early 2024, has already garnered millions of views and critical acclaim for its innovative, video game-inspired universe. With over 14.3 billion views worldwide, it’s clear that Solo Leveling has become a global phenomenon.

As of now, Netflix has not announced a release date for the series. Given the scale of the production, it could take some time before fans can watch the action unfold. In the meantime, Netflix continues to embrace the growing interest in anime, with many of its subscribers tuning in to anime series.

If it's gonna be as good as the anime, I'm down. But Netflix has been hit or miss with adaptations, so I'm not too hopeful
