New Google Messages Features: Snooze Notifications and Delete for Everyone

Google Messages has rolled out some exciting new features that make managing your conversations easier than ever.

These updates bring much-needed functionality to the app, making it more user-friendly and giving you better control over your chats.

One of the standout features is the ability to snooze notifications. This works like the snooze feature in email apps, allowing you to temporarily silence conversations without fully muting them. To snooze a conversation, simply long-press on it in the app’s homepage. You’ll see a new clock icon that, when tapped, offers several snooze options: 1 hour, 8 hours, 24 hours, or “Always.” After snoozing, the conversation will appear grayed out with a snooze icon beneath it, making it easy to spot. If you change your mind, you can easily undo the snooze by long-pressing the conversation again and tapping the clock icon.

The other major addition is the long-awaited Delete for everyone feature, now available for RCS (Rich Communication Service) chats

. If you send a message you regret, you can delete it for all participants. Just long-press on a message in an RCS chat, and you’ll see a trash icon with two options: “Delete for everyone” and “Delete for me.” Be aware, though, that messages sent from older app versions may still be visible to recipients who haven’t updated yet.

Google Messages also now lets you personalize group chats more easily.

You can rename RCS group chats to help keep track of them, and the profile avatar section has been revamped. The default 2×2 circular grid can now be replaced with a custom image from your gallery or a Google Illustration, giving group chats a fresh look and a personal touch.

Another update is to the New Chat page, where RCS status is now displayed next to each contact, and the interface has been updated with dynamic color theming

. The app now matches the color scheme of your phone’s settings, creating a smoother, more cohesive experience across apps. This update is part of the stable version (20250528_00_RC00).

Overall, these updates bring Google Messages up to speed with other popular messaging platforms, like iMessage. Whether you need to unsend a message, temporarily mute a conversation, or make your group chats more personalized, these new features make Google Messages a lot more flexible and user-friendly.
