After more than two decades at the helm of one of PC gaming’s most influential platforms, Robin “Dark0ne” Scott has officially stepped down as the owner of Nexus Mods.
Scott’s decision to leave comes after years of mental and emotional strain brought on by managing a massive operation. Founded in his bedroom during the era of Morrowind, Nexus Mods has grown into a cornerstone of the modding world, with over 63 million users and 16.8 billion downloads.
“The stress of being responsible for the behemoth I created has taken its toll,” Scott explained in his farewell message. He cited burnout and its negative impact on both his health and the team as key reasons for stepping aside. “This is me doing something I probably should’ve done years ago: taking care of myself.”
Stepping into his shoes are two familiar community members, Victor (Foledinho) and Marinus (Rapsak), who now bear the title of Site Owners. Scott emphasized that this isn’t a corporate buyout or a quiet exit – just a long-overdue act of self-care. Despite stepping down formally, he will remain active in the community via forums, Discord, and as an advisor.
Scott assured users that the change won’t disrupt the core mission of Nexus Mods. “We’re community-first and mod-author focused. That’s not up for negotiation.” He also noted that the transition has been happening gradually behind the scenes, with the current team already handling most of the workload.
Nexus Mods remains a vital platform for gamers looking to enhance or fix their games. Whether it’s modding Skyrim, Fallout, Stardew Valley, or diving into NSFW chaos with Stellar Blade tweaks, the site has long been a one-stop hub. As one user joked, “He saw Stellar Blade peaked at 192k and said, ‘My work here is done.’”
Scott’s legacy isn’t just about code or downloads – it’s about enabling generations of gamers to take control of their favorite titles. And while he’s taking a step back, the platform he built remains stronger than ever, now under new leadership and ready for its next chapter.
