Nintendo fans were excited when the company announced a live-action The Legend of Zelda movie in November 2023. Set to hit theaters on March 26, 2027, the film would mark the next chapter in Nintendo’s push to adapt its iconic video games for the big screen. However, today the company revealed that the release date for the film has been delayed by a few weeks. 
Instead of March 26, the new release date will be May 7, 2027.
The announcement came from Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo’s president, who took to the company’s official X account to break the news. Miyamoto explained that the delay is due to production reasons, saying, ‘For production reasons, we are changing the release date of the live-action film for The Legend of Zelda to May 7, 2027. It will be some weeks later than the release timing we originally announced, and we will take the extra time to make the film as good as it can be. Thank you for your patience.’ The tweet was accompanied by a message in Japanese, emphasizing the studio’s commitment to creating a high-quality movie.
While the delay might be disappointing for fans eagerly awaiting the film, Miyamoto’s statement does assure that the extra time will be used to refine the movie and make it the best possible adaptation. But for many, the question remains: who will play the iconic roles of Link and Zelda? Rumors have surfaced that Hunter Schafer might be tapped to play Zelda, but there has been no official confirmation on casting for the protagonist, Link. The anticipation continues to grow as fans speculate about who will fill these legendary roles.
