The Nintendo Switch 2 Is Selling Twice as Fast as the OG Switch

The Nintendo Switch 2 has hit the ground running, outpacing the original Switch at an incredible pace. Within its first four days on the market, the Switch 2 sold over 3.5 million units, surpassing the original’s first-month sales of 2.7 million. This performance has led many analysts to predict even more significant success for the console in the years ahead.

In fact, early projections from DFC Intelligence forecast that the Switch 2 will sell 15 million units by the end of 2025, and some experts predict it could reach as many as 100 million units by 2029.

One reason for this swift success is that Nintendo learned from its past mistakes with the first Switch, which faced supply constraints and logistical challenges at launch. Now, with the Switch 2, Nintendo has worked out the kinks and is delivering a steady supply of consoles, ensuring fans can get their hands on one without a hitch.

However, not everyone is convinced that the Switch 2 will continue its rapid sales trajectory. Some industry experts, like Rhys Elliott of Alynea Analytics, believe the holiday season will be a crucial test for the console’s long-term success. While he’s confident in its initial success, Elliott points out that much of the first Switch’s appeal came from its release during the pandemic, when people were stuck at home and gaming was a primary form of entertainment. This time, the novelty may not have the same impact.

Looking ahead, much will depend on Nintendo’s content strategy and marketing. The company will need to continue offering great games, especially for the casual audience, to maintain momentum. A major release for the holiday season will be essential to keep interest high. Fans are hoping for more details soon, possibly via an upcoming Nintendo Direct, which could kick off the next phase of hype for the Switch 2.
