Nintendo Switch 2 Overheating Issues Reported, But Sales Remain Strong

Some Nintendo Switch 2 consoles are reportedly overheating, causing system freezes and crashes, especially in high-performance games.

Users have noticed their consoles’ fans running at full speed, struggling to cool down the hardware. This issue has been particularly noticeable in Japan, with some Western players also reporting similar problems. Players have encountered overheating issues even in less demanding games like Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, as well as more intensive titles such as Cyberpunk 2077. One Reddit user shared their experience: ‘I’ve had my Switch 2 display a message saying that the system was overheating and entering sleep mode twice now, both times while playing Tears of the Kingdom Switch 2 Edition docked. I was also running at 2k resolution, which probably wasn’t helping, but this is still worrying. Anybody else experienced this? Wondering if I could have a faulty system or maybe TotK is just that intensive.’ If you’re facing similar issues, cleaning the air vents and letting the console cool down might help temporarily. However, if the overheating continues, sending the console for repairs could be your best bet. Despite these issues, the Nintendo Switch 2 is still selling extremely well, with estimates suggesting it may have surpassed 5 million units sold by June. Nintendo’s fiscal year target of 15 million units sold by March 2026 remains highly achievable, even with these occasional setbacks.
