Stolen Nintendo Switch 2 Consoles Worth $1.4 Million: Heist Shakes Texas

In an unexpected turn of events, a truckload of Nintendo Switch 2 consoles was stolen while on its way to a GameStop store in Texas. The truck, which was transporting the much-anticipated consoles from Nintendo’s headquarters in Washington, was looted before it could complete its journey.

A total of 2,810 consoles, valued at around $1.4 million, were taken from the semi-truck in a daring heist.

The theft occurred while the truck was stopped at a Love’s Truck Stop in Bennett, Colorado. The driver discovered the break-in during a pre-drive inspection, but it’s unclear when exactly the theft occurred during the trip from Washington. The driver, unaware of the truck’s contents, had assumed it was filled with games or toys. Authorities are still investigating the incident, and the stolen consoles remain unaccounted for.

With nearly 3,000 Switch 2 consoles now missing, Nintendo’s sales figures for the device are taking a hit. However, the console continues to soar in popularity, with over 3.5 million units sold worldwide within the first four days of its release. In the U.S. alone, 1.1 million units flew off shelves in the first week, more than double the launch rate of the original Switch. Despite the theft, analysts predict that the Switch 2 will reach sales figures of 16 million units by the end of 2025.

Unfortunately, for consumers in Texas eager to get their hands on a Switch 2, this robbery means they’ll have to wait a bit longer for new stock to arrive-assuming another heist doesn’t occur in the meantime.
