No Rest for the Wicked Might Skip Xbox at First Due to Market Conditions

The action RPG *No Rest for the Wicked* might initially skip Xbox, according to a statement by Moon Studios founder and Game Director Thomas Mahler. During a conversation on the game’s official Discord server, Mahler mentioned that, given current market conditions, the game could launch first on PlayStation 5 and possibly the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

He noted, “We’ll need to have discussions with Microsoft to figure out what makes sense for Xbox.”

Mahler later elaborated on social media, acknowledging that while the situation isn’t set in stone, focusing on PlayStation 5 at the outset makes business sense in light of current trends. “There’s no official decision yet,” he said, “but when you look at the numbers, PS5 seems like the most logical choice.” Ultimately, Mahler confirmed that the game will be available on all platforms, but not necessarily simultaneously.

*No Rest for the Wicked* entered early access on PC in April 2024, initially published by Private Division. However, Moon Studios regained the publishing rights earlier this year. It was recently revealed that the Austrian studio, known for its *Ori* series, has faced some difficulties. Mahler even requested fans leave positive reviews on Steam to counteract some negative ones. This may explain why the studio is focusing on the most profitable platforms for its console releases.

The reasoning behind the decision likely stems from the smaller user base of Xbox compared to PlayStation 5 or, potentially, the Nintendo Switch 2. Xbox hardware sales have been slowing, with Microsoft’s first-party titles now available on PC and other consoles, making it harder for third-party developers to justify dedicating resources to Xbox versions unless there’s a specific Game Pass deal-something *No Rest for the Wicked* doesn’t currently have.

It’s interesting, given that Moon Studios’ flagship *Ori* franchise found much of its success on Xbox, that the studio may now prioritize other platforms first.
