Nothing Headphone (1): A Unique Over-Ear Audio Experience with KEF Collaboration

Nothing is stepping into the over-ear headphone market with its new Headphone (1), and it’s designed to impress both visually and acoustically.

After establishing itself with the Ear (1) earbuds, the brand is now making its first major move in the world of over-ear audio. This new entry into the audio market is not just another pair of headphones – it’s a unique blend of cutting-edge technology and distinctive design.

Collaborating with KEF, a renowned name in high-fidelity sound, Nothing brings us a headphone that promises outstanding audio performance. The custom-built 40mm dynamic driver delivers a rich, natural sound profile, with deep bass, precise mids, and bright treble that stand out in every mode – ANC, Transparency, and Spatial Audio.

Visually, the Headphone (1) is unmistakable. Its transparent elements are an iconic touch that’s become synonymous with the brand. The design doesn’t just prioritize looks; comfort is also a key consideration. The ear cups are made of aluminum and durable plastic, while the telescopic arms are adjustable to fit most head sizes. Oil-resistant ear cushions ensure a comfortable fit while reducing ear pressure, making them perfect for long listening sessions.

In terms of controls, the Headphone (1) abandons touch controls in favor of physical, tactile buttons. A Roller, Paddle, and Button are incorporated into the design, providing a precise and reliable way to adjust the volume, navigate your music, or switch between ANC modes without guessing the touch gestures.

With the collaboration of KEF, Nothing has made sure that sound quality doesn’t take a back seat. The headphones also feature advanced spatialization with built-in head tracking, delivering a 360-degree surround sound experience. And with support for Hi-Res Audio, LDAC, USB-C for lossless playback, and a 3.5mm jack, they provide flexibility in how you listen to your music.

The real-time adaptive ANC ensures that external noise is blocked out when needed, and Transparency Mode lets you remain aware of your surroundings. The four-microphone ENC system ensures your voice is clear during calls, even in noisy environments.

Battery life is impressive too, with up to 35 hours of listening time. A quick 5-minute charge gives you 2.4 hours of playback with ANC on. The Headphone (1) also supports Bluetooth 5.3, dual-device connections, Fast Pair, and low-latency performance, making them versatile for multiple devices and use cases.

One of the standout features is the customizable Button. This button, controllable via the Nothing X app, can be set to perform various tasks like switching between music, podcasts, and voice notes, all with a single press. This makes it a handy tool for everyday tasks, whether commuting, working out, or just enjoying your audio.

For audiophiles, the Nothing X app also offers an 8-band Advanced EQ, allowing users to fine-tune the sound to their liking. The Headphone (1) will be available in black and white, priced at £299 / $299 / €299, and pre-orders begin on July 4. The official release is set for July 15.
