Nothing, known for its transparent tech aesthetic, is sticking to its roots with these over-ear headphones that look like a blend of modern art and retro nostalgia.

The Headphone (1) sports the brand’s iconic transparent plastic components, with a cassette tape-inspired top portion of the earcups and a sturdy metal lower half. Available in both black and white, the design certainly isn’t subtle – and that’s exactly the point. Three tactile buttons are visible, including one on the outer side of the earcup, suggesting a thoughtful approach to usability.

Interestingly, while these are primarily wireless headphones, one image confirms the inclusion of a 3.5mm jack, offering users flexibility across devices. The headband appears fixed without folding hinges, which may affect portability, but could also contribute to a more solid, durable build.

The Headphone (1) is co-developed with high-end British audio brand KEF, which hints at strong audio credentials. The headphones are expected to launch at $309 / €299 / £299. While that price places it in the premium category, it’s still more affordable than flagship models from Sony and Bose.

Though early impressions from the design have sparked mixed reactions online, it’s hard to deny that the Headphone (1) dares to stand out in a sea of lookalike cans. With Bluetooth 5.4, advanced ANC, a massive 783mAh battery promising up to 42 hours of playtime, and a 30W fast-charging feature – the first of its kind in headphones – Nothing may be betting that function and flair will win over critics once they hear the sound.

Like the original Ear (1), Headphone (1) is unique, controversial, and probably not for everyone – but that may just be what makes it special.
