The Nothing Phone (3) marks the final chapter of an unconventional smartphone journey. Carl Pei’s London-based tech venture has decided to bring its third-generation lineup to a close, confirming that there will be no Phone (3+) or surprise additions to the series.

This means the trio – the flagship Nothing Phone (3), the mid-range Phone (3a) Pro, and the standard Phone (3a) – is now officially complete.

While fans might be disappointed by the abrupt finale, the logic is hard to argue. The lineup offers something for nearly everyone: the $800 Phone (3) targets premium users, while the more affordable 3a models serve those who want the aesthetic and smart features without breaking the bank.

Still, calling the Phone (3) a ‘flagship’ has stirred debate. It lacks the top-tier Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 Elite chip found in true heavy-hitters like the Galaxy S25, instead featuring the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 – a slightly trimmed-down version that still delivers excellent real-world performance. It’s a noticeable jump over the Phone (2), and in many ways, it feels like a flagship without the eye-watering price tag.

What helps sell that feeling is the upgraded camera system: four 50MP shooters, including an AI-enhanced periscope zoom and a sharp 4K-capable selfie camera. The device also impresses with a sleek 6.67-inch AMOLED display, ultra-thin bezels, a large 5,150mAh battery, and snappy fast charging. Plus, Nothing OS 3.5 on Android 15 runs smooth, clean, and comes with a five-year update promise – firmly placing it in premium territory.

The Phone (3a) and 3a Pro, however, are so similar it borders on confusing. Both share the same 6.77-inch 120Hz AMOLED panel, Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chip, 5,000mAh battery, and signature transparent back with Glyph lighting. The Pro version merely steps it up with a 50MP periscope lens, better selfie cam, and slightly more RAM/storage. Visually, only the camera module really differentiates the two – the Pro has a distinct circular island design.

As the curtain falls on the third-gen lineup, Nothing’s attention is turning toward the inevitable: the Phone (4) series. That is, unless superstition kicks in. If Nothing were a Chinese brand, it might’ve skipped the number entirely – “4” sounding eerily similar to “death” in Mandarin has led companies like OnePlus and Vivo to avoid it in product names altogether.

Whether it’s Phone (4) or something else entirely, one thing is certain: the quirky charm of Nothing is here to stay, glyphs and all.
