Nothing is about to make a major splash with its upcoming Phone (3), scheduled for launch on July 1. As the launch date draws nearer, the company is starting to ramp up the excitement with some teasers. Yesterday, Carl Pei’s team confirmed that the Phone (3) will be powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chip.

But the real news comes with a groundbreaking announcement from Akis Evangelidis, the Co-Founder and Head of Marketing at Nothing.

For the first time, Nothing’s latest device will be supported for a full 7 years, offering 5 years of OS updates and 7 years of security patches. This is a major upgrade compared to the Phone (2), which provided only 3 years of Android updates and 4 years of security patches. In fact, the Phone (3) will be joining the ranks of Apple, Google, and Samsung in offering this extended support, which has previously been limited to the biggest players in the smartphone market. Honor also recently made a similar commitment.

The Phone (3) will cost around $800, putting it in the same price range as other flagship models like the iPhone 16, Galaxy S25, and Pixel 9. These devices also offer a 7-year update promise (with Apple’s last two years focused solely on security patches). Google began this trend with the Pixel 8 series in late 2023, followed by Samsung’s Galaxy S24 lineup in 2024.

While the extended software support is undoubtedly a strong selling point, the question remains: Can the hardware truly keep up over the long haul? The Phone (3) will feature the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, which might not quite match the power expected from a flagship chip, but there’s also a major camera upgrade on the horizon. Rumors suggest the new main sensor could offer better image quality, and a larger periscope telephoto lens might be introduced for enhanced zoom. The battery life is likely to see an improvement as well, with some expecting a capacity greater than 5,000mAh, though Nothing hasn’t confirmed this yet.

Another change worth noting is the disappearance of the iconic Glyph Interface, which will be replaced by a dot-matrix display. While we are still a bit away from the official reveal of the Phone (3), all the leaks and official announcements so far suggest that the device will be a solid upgrade from its predecessor. With the extended software support in place, it seems like Nothing might finally be ready to establish itself as a serious player in the long-term smartphone market.
