It appears gamers have spoken loud and clear regarding 8 GB GPUs, and the verdict is not in their favor. According to fresh sales data from the renowned retailer Mindfactory, higher VRAM configurations are becoming the go-to choice for gamers, as the demand for 16 GB GPUs far outweighs their 8 GB counterparts. When NVIDIA and AMD launched their GeForce RTX 5060 Ti and Radeon RX 9060 XT models, both companies released 8 GB versions alongside their 16 GB siblings.

However, this move was met with skepticism by many gamers who quickly showed their preference for the higher VRAM variants.

The numbers don’t lie. Mindfactory reports that the RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB variant has outperformed the 8 GB version by nearly 16 times, with over 1,700 units sold compared to just 110 units of the 8 GB model. Similarly, AMD’s Radeon RX 9060 XT 16 GB has sold a staggering 30 times more units than the 8 GB version, proving that gamers simply aren’t buying into the lower VRAM configurations. For example, the cheapest GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB from Palit alone has sold more than 850 units.

Why are gamers turning their backs on the 8 GB models? Modern gaming features like DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) and FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution) demand more memory to provide smooth performance, especially as games get more demanding. Additionally, the price gap between the 8 GB and 16 GB models isn’t substantial enough to justify the performance sacrifice. Gamers simply aren’t willing to trade off performance for a small cost savings. While this data specifically comes from Mindfactory in Germany, it’s likely reflective of trends across global markets. It seems that the 8 GB VRAM GPU may be nearing its end as consumers continue to prioritize more powerful, future-proof options.
