Nvidia has just announced the newest addition to its RTX 50-series lineup: the GeForce RTX 5050. Priced at a competitive $249, this budget-friendly GPU is expected to launch in the second half of July.
Offering impressive performance at an affordable price, it’s likely to attract a wide range of gamers and creators.
The RTX 5050 features a new GB207 die based on Nvidia’s Blackwell architecture, packing 2560 CUDA cores, which is around two-thirds the count of the RTX 5060 released earlier this year. It comes equipped with 5th generation Tensor cores and 4th generation RT cores, enabling advanced features such as DLSS 4 with multi-frame generation and the upcoming Reflex 2. These cutting-edge capabilities ensure that users get high-quality gaming and rendering experiences without breaking the bank.
Clocked at a base frequency of 2.31GHz and boosting up to 2.57GHz, the RTX 5050 offers impressive performance. It comes with 8GB of GDDR6 memory, which, though a bit behind the upcoming GDDR7 seen in other 50-series cards, still offers solid performance for most modern workloads. With connectivity options including 3x DisplayPort 2.1b and 1x HDMI 2.1b, as well as support for 9th generation NVENC encoding and 6th generation NVDEC decoding, the RTX 5050 is well-suited for a range of creative and gaming tasks.
Despite its reasonable pricing, the RTX 5050 is not a power hog. With a power requirement of just 130W, it can be powered via a single 8-pin connector or a 300W or higher PCIe Gen 5 cable. This makes it ideal for users with less powerful systems or those looking to upgrade without overhauling their entire PC setup.
In terms of raw performance, Nvidia claims that the RTX 5050 is 60% faster in raster performance than the RTX 3050, which was released over three years ago. It’s also reported to deliver performance similar to the RTX 4060, which was released two years ago. This makes it a strong contender in the mid-range market, though there’s still some uncertainty about how it will perform in comparison to higher-end cards like the RTX 5070 or 5090.
Although the RTX 5050 will not be available as a Founders Edition card, it will be offered by major board partners such as ASUS, Colorful, Gainward, Galaxy, GIGABYTE, INNO3D, MSI, Palit, PNY, and ZOTAC. A mobile version of the RTX 5050 will also be available, shipping today in laptops starting at $999.
