NVIDIA’s collaboration with MediaTek on the N1X chip is stirring up excitement in the tech world, as it appears that the new superchip is poised to challenge mainstream desktop and laptop processors. The N1X, which first surfaced on Geekbench, offers a sneak peek into what could be NVIDIA’s future in the CPU market.

While the company didn’t showcase the N1 series at Computex, it has been working on more affordable CPUs, with the N1X expected to hit the desktop market soon.

Despite not being as powerful as the DGX Spark, the N1X looks promising, featuring ARM cores comparable to NVIDIA’s GB10 superchip. The N1X is rumored to have around 10 Cortex-X925 and 10 Cortex-A725 ARM cores, providing competitive performance when compared to current AMD and Intel processors

. While the specifications haven’t been fully revealed, Geekbench results show impressive scores of 3,096 points in single-core and 18,837 in multicore tests, placing it on par with the latest Core Ultra and Zen 5 processors.

The benchmark results, although not fully reliable due to the variability of Geekbench scores, suggest that the N1X is a serious contender. The system running the chip was equipped with 128GB of RAM and was running Ubuntu 24.04.1. The base clock of 2.81 GHz, with a boost clock up to 4 GHz, further contributes to its strong performance in these tests.

As of now, NVIDIA hasn’t officially commented on the N1 series, but industry insiders believe an official reveal could happen within the next couple of months. However, the release of the N1 series is unlikely to happen this year. Despite the wait, the N1X’s early results suggest that NVIDIA’s ARM-based CPUs will be a formidable player in the CPU race.
