Bethesda has rolled out Update 1.1 for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, now available on all platforms. Initially released only for Steam Beta users on June 5, the update fixes numerous issues, from game crashes and freezes to VFX and animation bugs. A key fix addresses quest-related issues that previously soft-locked players, preventing further progress. This marks the first of two major updates Bethesda is working on for the remaster, with the second slated to arrive first on Steam Beta before rolling out to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Bethesda has not yet given a specific release window for the next update, only noting it will arrive ‘in the coming weeks.’
Despite some performance hiccups at launch, Oblivion Remastered continues to be a top-seller. It contributed to Xbox’s strong sales in the US during April 2025, and Newzoo hailed the remaster as ‘a benchmark for how to execute a remaster effectively.’ While the technical issues may still persist for some, many fans have found the return to Oblivion a nostalgic treat. Wccftech’s Francesco De Meo gave the remaster a glowing review earlier this year, praising Bethesda for its careful balance of modernization and preservation of the game’s original magic. ‘The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered stands as the definitive way to experience Bethesda’s classic,’ De Meo noted, despite the game’s occasional performance and gameplay quirks.
For those struggling with ongoing issues, modders have already begun releasing patches and tweaks to improve the game’s performance, with varying degrees of success. But for many, returning to Oblivion is a satisfying trip down memory lane, warts and all.
