ONE-NETBOOK is stepping into the future of portable graphics with the unveiling of what may be the world’s first Thunderbolt 5-based eGPU – an upgraded version of its ONEXGPU device, featuring AMD’s RDNA 3-powered RX 7600M XT.

As Thunderbolt 5 adoption ramps up, this bold move could put the Chinese manufacturer ahead in the high-performance portable gaming scene.

While Thunderbolt 4 capped out at 40 Gbps, Thunderbolt 5 doubles the bandwidth to a blazing 80 Gbps, allowing for significantly faster data transfer and better support for modern GPUs. ONE-NETBOOK’s new ONEXGPU aims to capitalize on this speed, potentially offering a much smoother gaming experience than its OCulink-powered predecessor, which offered 64 Gbps bandwidth.

The company hasn’t revealed much about the internals yet, but early photos show a refreshed design – slightly bulkier than the original but apparently better cooled, with RGB lighting on the front panel giving it a gamer-ready aesthetic. This hints that thermals and visual appeal were major focuses in the redesign.

The previous ONEXGPU included a PCIe 3.0 M.2 slot and a variety of USB ports. For the Thunderbolt 5 model, we expect a jump to either PCIe 4.0 or 5.0 for the SSD, matching current desktop standards. It’s also likely the new unit will retain multiple USB-A and USB-C ports, plus a power delivery port for device charging – making it a handy all-in-one dock for laptops or handhelds.

Although this ONEXGPU hasn’t been officially launched yet, early signs point to it becoming a key player in the eGPU space – especially for those who want desktop-class performance on the go. As Thunderbolt 5 becomes more widespread, portable solutions like this are going to get more attention than ever before.
