One UI 8 Brings a Dynamic Lock Screen Clock Widget to Galaxy Phones

One UI 8’s latest beta introduces a cool new feature for Galaxy phones: a dynamic clock widget on the lock screen. It might look a bit familiar if you’re an iPhone user, as it’s similar to iOS’s depth effect, but it adds a fun twist of its own. The clock automatically wraps around faces or objects on your wallpaper, adjusting its size to fit the available space.

Plus, you can move it around the lock screen to customize it even further.

This new clock widget is part of the upcoming One UI 8, which will be based on Android 16. The update is expected to roll out sooner than anticipated, potentially arriving with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7, both of which are set to be unveiled on July 9. This beta version is currently available for the Galaxy S25 Ultra, but other Galaxy devices are likely to receive the update soon.

In One UI 7, users had to rely on the Good Lock app and the Lockstar module to get a similar effect, but it was tricky to get everything lined up perfectly. Now, the new widget automatically adjusts to fit the wallpaper’s central objects, and the numbers in the clock resize accordingly. This adds a more seamless and fluid experience compared to the previous manual methods.

While the feature itself isn’t groundbreaking, it’s a fun way to customize your device and adds a new layer of personality to the lock screen. For those who prefer a more dynamic and engaging interface, this could be an appealing update. On the always-on display, the clock reverts to a standard font, but when the screen is active, it goes back to its dynamic, wrapping form.

Although some people might find these types of clocks distracting, others enjoy the stylish look they bring. Apple offers a similar feature on its devices, allowing users to match the clock to their wallpaper, creating a cool depth effect. Ultimately, it’s all about personal preference. Some users love the added customization, while others prefer a simpler, more straightforward clock design.
