OnePlus 15 Skips 14, Adds New Camera Tech and 1.5K Display

OnePlus is shaking things up with its next flagship, which is reportedly going to be called the OnePlus 15-skipping the number 14 entirely.

The reason? Tetraphobia, a superstition common in some Asian countries where the number ‘4’ is considered unlucky because it sounds similar to ‘death’ in Chinese. This cultural sensitivity is already prompting reactions online, but it’s not the only change worth noting.

The OnePlus 15 is said to feature a 6.78-inch flat display with ultra-thin bezels and a resolution of 1.5K, slightly lower than its predecessor’s 2K panel. This change might seem like a downgrade, but it’s actually a strategic decision-lower-resolution screens often support higher brightness and better battery efficiency. Plus, they’re cheaper to produce, allowing OnePlus to allocate those resources to other premium features.

In the design department, the camera island is getting a major revamp. OnePlus is ditching the circular camera module in favor of a more conventional layout. Expect three rear cameras, including a 50MP main sensor and a periscope telephoto lens. This will also be the debut of OnePlus’s very own image processing brand, possibly borrowing Oppo’s Lumo tech. What remains uncertain is the fate of the long-standing Hasselblad co-branding-will it be replaced, coexist, or quietly vanish?

For those wondering whether a “Pro” version will accompany the standard OnePlus 15, the answer is no. Sources close to the company suggest this will be the only flagship release this cycle. It’s a bold move, but perhaps OnePlus is looking to simplify its lineup while maintaining strong performance and design language.

The OnePlus 15 is shaping up to be a flagship that balances performance, practicality, and cultural awareness-with a few surprises thrown in for good measure.
