OnePlus is shaking things up again with its mid-range Nord 5, and this time, it’s bringing flagship-level specs to the budget category. Ahead of its highly anticipated July 8 product launch, the brand has been teasing us with bold marketing tactics, including some surprising honesty about the hardware packed into its upcoming devices. The latest buzz? The OnePlus Nord 5 is confirmed to feature the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset-straight from the flagship range, and a sign that this device will offer top-tier performance at a more affordable price.
But that’s not all.
OnePlus has taken it a step further by sharing details about the camera setup. In a move that’s sure to get attention, the Nord 5 will sport a primary rear camera sensor borrowed directly from the OnePlus 13 flagship. This is no ordinary sensor; it’s the Sony Lytia 700 with optical image stabilization (OIS), a feature typically reserved for the highest-end smartphones. Having this sensor in a mid-range phone is a game-changer, offering premium photography capabilities for a fraction of the price.
And the surprises keep coming. The Nord 5 will also feature a 50MP front-facing camera powered by the Samsung-made Isocell JN5 sensor. This sensor is most famously used in the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s rear camera, which comes equipped with some serious imaging tech. While the Nord 5 won’t match the S25 Ultra’s camera versatility, its 50MP front cam will still deliver stunning selfies that rival even the best flagship devices on the market.
OnePlus is pushing the boundaries of what we can expect from budget phones, and the Nord 5, along with the upcoming Buds 4, is sure to make waves in markets across Asia and Europe. Meanwhile, the US will also get a taste of OnePlus innovation with the launch of the Nord CE5, though details on its specs remain scarce. Don’t forget the OnePlus Watch 3, which will be making its way to the US as well, offering a sleek and stylish option for wearable tech enthusiasts.
