Optiscaler Now Supports AMD FSR 4, But With Some Limitations

Gamers looking to push their visuals further can now rejoice-Optiscaler has officially added support for AMD’s FSR 4, offering an easy way to replace older upscaling methods with AMD’s cutting-edge technology.

While native FSR 4 support in games is still scarce, Optiscaler steps in to fill that gap by acting as a middleware layer, allowing users to swap outdated upscalers like DLSS, FSR 1–3, and XeSS with FSR 4-so long as a few conditions are met.

FSR 4 (FidelityFX Super Resolution 4.0) marks a notable leap for AMD, delivering sharper visuals, reduced artifacts, and better performance than its predecessors. However, it’s only compatible with the latest RDNA 4-based GPUs, specifically the Radeon RX 9000 series like the RX 9060 and RX 9070. Plus, even though FSR 4 support is growing, only around 60 titles currently integrate it natively, leaving many gamers stuck with outdated visuals.

That’s where Optiscaler comes in. Previously limited to FSR 3.1, the tool now unlocks FSR 4 compatibility, offering users a way to modernize their upscaling experience-even in games without native support. It acts like a translator, redirecting the game’s chosen upscaling engine to AMD’s FSR 4. However, it’s worth noting: Vulkan-based games aren’t supported just yet.

With Optiscaler’s newest update, users with supported hardware can enjoy smoother gameplay and sharper imagery by bypassing legacy upscaling engines. It’s a powerful step for AMD fans and visual purists alike who want their games to look and perform at their best-even if the game devs haven’t caught up yet.
