Blizzard has just announced that Overwatch 2 Season 17 will officially launch on June 24, bringing a host of exciting new updates and additions to the game.
The spotlight of this season is on the popular Stadium mode, which will receive several fresh features and content that players are sure to enjoy.
Three heroes-Zenyatta, Sigma, and Junkrat-will be made available in Stadium mode, along with two brand-new maps: Esperança and Samoa. This season will also introduce Stadium Forge, a feature that allows players to create, save, and share their own team compositions. With the addition of expanded build tools, match strategies will become even more detailed, helping players fine-tune their gameplay.
Another major addition is the first-ever rank reset for Stadium mode, giving players a clean slate to show off their skills. Season 17 will also introduce a rewards system, with consistent performance earning you special rewards, and Custom Games will allow players to craft their own unique rules. To further motivate players, new All-Star rewards will be available to those who dive into the mode.
Map voting is another exciting feature coming to Overwatch 2, with players now able to vote for their preferred map in both Quick Play and Competitive. After the role queue locks in, three random map options will appear, and each vote has a 1-in-10 chance of affecting the odds. The map with the highest odds will be selected, and team chat, battle tags, and individual votes will be hidden to reduce pressure. Additionally, leaver penalties will take effect as soon as the voting begins.
In terms of new maps, Overwatch 2 is introducing three exciting locations. The Aatlis map, set in Morocco, is a vibrant Flashpoint map featuring lush gardens and a luxury resort area. It’s designed for fast-paced action with tight rotations and intense fights. The Esperança map, part of the Stadium mode, is a reimagined round-based map with new elevation layers, offering teams more tactical flexibility. Finally, the volcanic control point from Samoa adds lava-filled arenas and vertical gameplay for intense battles.
Season 17 will also launch two Mythic skins: D.Va’s Horang Hero Skin and Reaper’s Steel Death Weapon Skin. Both skins evolve through four tiers, offering plenty of customization options. Finally, a limited-time 6v6 mode called Hacks & Hijinks will arrive on July 15, introducing ever-changing match modifiers, such as low gravity and health packs that charge your Ultimate. This mode will only be available on Control maps from July 15 to 28.
