Painkiller Remake Set for October 9 Launch
Saber Interactive and Anshar Studios have confirmed the release date for the highly anticipated Painkiller remake. Set for launch on October 9, this ‘modern reimagining’ of the iconic 2004 first-person shooter will be available on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X. Fans can now pre-order the game on all platforms ahead of its release.
The Standard Edition of Painkiller will retail for $39.99 and includes the “Iron Crusade” skin pack, which offers unique skins for all four playable characters-Ink, Void, Sol, and Roch-and six weapons: Electrodriver, Stakegun, Shotgun, SMG, Hand Cannon, and Rocket Launcher. For console pre-orders, an exclusive “Burnished Pride” pack will be available, which offers gold versions of the weapons mentioned above.
For those seeking even more content, the Deluxe Edition is priced at $49.99 and includes the “Iron Crusade” skin pack along with three post-launch DLCs. These DLCs will provide additional skins for both characters and weapons, further enhancing the game’s replay value.
As with the original Painkiller, players will assume the role of a character sentenced to Purgatory for their sins. The Voice of the Creator gives them a final chance at redemption by fighting through waves of demons with powerful, infernal weapons. Players will face terrifying adversaries, from hordes of demons to the monstrous offspring of Azazel, the fallen angel. The game features expansive, gothic environments, and players will traverse these landscapes using a variety of movement options, including jumping, grappling hooks, and dashes. A key addition to this remake is the online co-op mode, allowing players to team up with others in their quest for salvation, a notable departure from the original single-player-only experience.
In terms of character progression, players can use tarot cards to upgrade abilities, enhancing power, health, and damage. Each playable character has unique perks, adding depth to gameplay and encouraging players to experiment with different playstyles.
