Pik-Sen Lim, the versatile actress whose legacy spans classic British sitcoms and the haunting world of Dark Souls, has passed away at the age of 80.
Born in Penang, Malaysia, Lim broke cultural barriers across decades of television, film, and gaming.
She was best known to international audiences as Chung Su-Lee, the sharp-tongued Chinese student in the 1970s sitcom Mind Your Language. The show, while controversial today, remains a nostalgic touchpoint for many viewers, and Lim’s comedic timing made her character one of its standouts.
Beyond comedy, Lim showcased her dramatic talents on British staples like Doctor Who-where she played Chin Lee in The Mind of Evil-and Coronation Street. She also appeared in Vampire Academy, The Nevers, and the action-comedy Johnny English Reborn, where she portrayed the deadly Killer Cleaner.
But for a younger generation, Lim is immortalized through her voice in the critically acclaimed video game series Dark Souls. As the narrator for the opening cinematics of both Dark Souls and Dark Souls III, her haunting delivery helped set the tone for the bleak and mysterious worlds players would enter. These intros are now iconic, quoted endlessly by fans who cherish every line.
Actor Daniel York Loh paid tribute, remembering how he once watched Lim on TV before collaborating with her in theatre. “She was so affectionate, so witty, so brilliantly scabrous and absolutely honest about the rubbish this industry deals actors of our heritage,” he wrote. “We’ll miss you so much but thank you, Pixi, for blessing our lives with your unique presence.”
Pik-Sen Lim’s range-across cultures, genres, and mediums-leaves behind a rare legacy. From sitcom laughter to gothic fantasy, her voice continues to echo in unexpected places.
