New leaks about the Pixel 10 suggest it will feature significant upgrades in two key areas: an improved ultrasonic fingerprint sensor and compatibility with Qi2 wireless charging.
These improvements are set to enhance both convenience and performance for users.
Faster, More Reliable Fingerprint Recognition
When Google introduced ultrasonic fingerprint sensors in its Pixel devices, it was a major leap forward from the slower and less reliable optical sensors of previous models. Now, the upcoming Pixel 10 is expected to build on this technology, offering even better speed and reliability. The new ultrasonic fingerprint sensor is rumored to be more responsive, even when used with wet or dirty fingers.
Although Pixel devices already support Class 3 biometric authentication with Face Unlock, providing security for tasks like banking and payments, Google is not abandoning the fingerprint sensor. By keeping both options available, users have the flexibility to choose the most convenient or appropriate method for their needs.
Qi2 Wireless Charging & New Design
The Pixel 10 series will also support Qi2 wireless charging, a significant upgrade. However, to fully enjoy Qi2’s benefits, users will need a compatible magnetic case. This is in line with the approach taken by other companies like OnePlus and Samsung, who also implemented Qi2 support in their devices this year. A fun tidbit: while Apple’s iPhone 16e supports MagSafe, it lacks full Qi2 fast-charging compatibility.
The design of the Pixel 10 series will also see some changes. The regular Pixel 10 will come in vibrant colors like Ultra Blue, Limoncello, Iris, and Midnight, while the Pro models will feature more subdued tones, including Sterling Gray and Smoky Green. The foldable Pixel 10 Pro Fold will match the colors of the regular Pro models.
Launch Date & Availability
Google is expected to unveil the Pixel 10 series on August 20, with pre-orders starting the same day. The phones will officially hit the market on August 28. Alongside the fingerprint sensor and Qi2 upgrades, the Pixel 10 series is rumored to debut with Google’s new Tensor G5 chipset, which promises improved performance, faster biometric recognition, and next-generation charging technology.
