Pixel 10 Pro: 7 Features Google Could Roll Out in 2025
The Pixel 10 Pro, a flagship phone that’s grabbing attention, is just around the corner. Slated for release in August, it’s packed with features that make it worth the wait. If you’re thinking of switching from your Galaxy or iPhone, the Pixel 10 Pro could be your next great find.
New Chipset from Google
The heart of any smartphone is its chipset, and the Pixel 10 Pro will mark a significant shift. Google is moving away from using Samsung’s foundry for its Tensor chips (G1-G4) and bringing the design in-house for the first time with the new Tensor G5. This chip, built by TSMC (the company responsible for Apple’s A-series chips), is designed to enhance performance, especially in the GPU, modem, and image signal processor areas. While the changes might not drastically improve raw performance, this shift will give Google more control over its chip’s design, though expect some initial bugs as it’s a first-gen product from a new supply chain.
Tele-Macro Photography
One of the standout features expected on the Pixel 10 Pro is a tele-macro photography system that combines telephoto and ultrawide sensors. This innovation will allow users to capture sharp close-up shots from a distance, especially useful for photographing subjects like insects. While the ultrawide sensor is ideal for very close shots, the telephoto lens will provide a natural background blur and enhanced zoom for subjects at greater distances.
Upgraded Fingerprint Sensor
Google is also working on improving the fingerprint sensor on the Pixel 10 Pro. The new ultrasonic sensor will be faster and more reliable, even when your fingers are wet or dirty. While face unlock remains a top-notch security feature since the Pixel 8, the Pixel 10 Pro will offer both options for added flexibility.
Qi2 Wireless Charging
The Pixel 10 Pro will support Qi2 wireless charging, a more efficient and faster charging standard that uses magnetic alignment. To take full advantage of Qi2, you’ll need to buy a compatible magnetic case. Other brands, like Samsung and OnePlus, will also feature Qi2 in their 2025 models, so this feature isn’t unique to Google.
“Magic Cue” AI
AI is becoming a key focus for 2025 smartphones, and the Pixel 10 Pro is no different. The “Pixel Sense” AI assistant will be rebranded as “Magic Cue,” designed to provide passive, context-aware assistance. It will pull data from Google apps like Calendar and Messages to offer timely suggestions without needing to be prompted. While it won’t replace Google Assistant, it will be a helpful addition to the suite of AI tools.
Better Battery Life
The Pixel 10 Pro is rumored to feature the same 4,700mAh battery as its predecessor, the Pixel 9 Pro. However, the new Tensor G5 chip should provide more efficient power management, meaning better battery life despite the same capacity. Though this phone may not compete with competitors offering 7,000mAh or more, it should still deliver a full day of use.
Improved Display
Another anticipated upgrade is to the Pixel 10 Pro’s display. Google is expected to improve its PWM dimming rate, which controls screen brightness by rapidly turning pixels on and off. For users sensitive to flicker, this change should reduce discomfort. Currently, Pixel devices use a 240Hz PWM rate, but rumors suggest improvements that could match or exceed high-end devices like the Honor Magic 6 Pro.
