The latest July update for Pixel phones arrives with some surprising omissions and minimal changes. While Pixel owners won’t get many updates this month, Galaxy users are in for a much-needed patch.
Pixel vs Galaxy: What You Need to Know About the July Updates
Let’s dive into the details!

Pixel users are in a unique situation this month, as the July update brings very little to the table. After being leaked by Verizon earlier in the month, the update, officially released on July 8, only includes two functional bug fixes-no security patches at all. It’s a bit unusual for such an important update to skip the usual security patches. Specifically, the update mentions that there are no Pixel security patches, with the most recent security patch levels listed as July 1st and July 5th, 2025. So, Pixel users, don’t expect any security improvements this month.

Despite the lack of security fixes, the update does include a couple of bug fixes aimed at improving user experience. The first fix improves visual performance in apps like Android Auto, making the graphics smoother. The second fix addresses Wi-Fi connectivity, enhancing stability and performance under certain conditions. The devices receiving the update include the Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 8a, Pixel Fold, Pixel Tablet, and newer models like the Pixel 9 series. However, Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro users are left out this time, and Pixel 6a users will notice a mandatory update that reduces battery capacity and charging performance after 400 charging cycles.

To install the update on a compatible Pixel device, simply navigate to Settings > System > Software updates > System update and follow the prompts. Not a major update, but it’s something.

On the other hand, Galaxy users are facing a much more critical situation with the July update. Samsung’s release addresses one critical vulnerability and 21 high-severity issues in their devices. Samsung Mobile has patched 17 vulnerabilities, along with a couple of issues fixed by Samsung Semiconductor. Galaxy owners should definitely get the update ASAP to protect against these risks.

To install the update on a Galaxy phone, swipe down from the top of your device to open the quick settings, tap on the gear icon to go to settings, and then scroll down to Software update or System Updates. Tap on Download and Install, and the phone will check for available updates. Once the download is complete, you can install it right away or schedule it for a later time. It’s important to install this update as soon as possible, as it contains crucial security fixes.

In summary, while Pixel users get off relatively easy this month, Galaxy users must take action to protect their devices with the latest update. The gap between the updates for these two brands couldn’t be wider in terms of security.
