PlayStation’s decision to port its first-party, console-exclusive games to PC should have been a no-brainer for the company, with more players being able to enjoy popular titles wherever they want. However, their multi-platform approach has faced some hiccups, particularly around region restrictions that blocked many users from accessing games. This was especially frustrating as it seemed to limit players who either didn’t own a PlayStation console or couldn’t access PSN, with some games even being inaccessible in over 100 countries where PSN wasn’t available.
This became a significant issue with the release of Helldivers 2, and the conversation only grew louder with every subsequent port.
But it seems that PlayStation may finally be recognizing the problem. According to reports from Wario64, region restrictions have now been removed from popular titles like God of War Ragnarok, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and Helldivers 2 on PC. This shift suggests that PlayStation is starting to backtrack on its previous stance, signaling a potential end to the region-locking saga.
This is a positive step forward, especially considering that the recently released Days Gone Remastered launched without region locks. With older games also getting the same treatment, it seems we might finally be seeing the end of these unnecessary restrictions. It’s clear now that PlayStation’s decision to bring their games to Steam in the first place was meant to open up access to a wider audience. Blocking over 100 regions made no sense, and it’s great to see Sony taking steps to correct that.
