During the latest Pokémon Presents, a flood of new footage from Pokémon Legends: Z-A was revealed, showcasing an exciting new Mega Evolution.
However, for fans of the lore, the highlight was the official return of a beloved character from Pokémon X and Y.
Yes, you guessed it-Emma is back! After months of speculation, it’s finally confirmed that Emma will be appearing in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. For those who might have forgotten, Emma is a young girl from Pokémon X and Y who was adopted and trained by Looker, the famous detective from Lumiose City. By the end of X and Y, Looker hands over the reins of his Looker Bureau to Emma. Given that the Bureau appears in this futuristic version of Lumiose City, it’s no surprise that Emma is now running it. Her updated look also suggests she continues her work as the vigilant crime-fighter, Essentia.
But the real question is, when does Pokémon Legends: Z-A take place? Emma definitely appears older, but not quite so much that she could have overseen the complete transformation of Lumiose City into the futuristic metropolis we see in the new game. Has time travel come into play? Could this be Emma’s daughter-also named Emma? Highly unlikely. Maybe Kalos residents are just lightning-fast at city planning and construction.
Additionally, another familiar face from Pokémon X and Y made an appearance in the trailer: Mable, the new director of the Pokémon Research Lab. Those who remember her from the original games will know she was a member of the morally questionable Team Flare. It will be interesting to see whether she’s turned a new leaf or if her shady past continues to influence her actions.
The trailer also teased a bunch of brand-new characters, including Naveen, Lida, and possibly Urbain or Taunie. And let’s not forget the newly revealed Mega Dragonite!
Pokémon Legends: Z-A is set to launch on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on October 16, 2025. Be sure to check out all the latest reveals from this exciting Pokémon Presents event.
