The Tuscaloosa Police Department is asking for help to identify a man who stole cash from a convenience store while dressed as Scooby-Doo. The thief struck at the Quick Stop on Highway 82, caught on CCTV camera wearing the famous Hanna-Barbera cartoon character’s costume.

In a surprising twist, the suspect removed his Scooby-Doo hood during the crime – but was still masked underneath with a balaclava, making it harder to reveal his identity.

According to authorities, the suspect is believed to be a white male, approximately 5’9″ tall. The police have requested information from the public to help solve the mystery. The thief didn’t steal any snacks, though, which seems odd for a costume that’s all about food, right? Instead, he grabbed cash and coins from gaming machines at around 3:45 a.m. Surveillance footage shows him wandering around the store, emptying the machines without hesitation. There were no signs of him taking anything else, leaving some to wonder about his true intentions – or perhaps his diet was just that specific.

In a lighthearted follow-up post, the Tuscaloosa Police Department shared a photo of the Mystery Machine, Scooby-Doo’s iconic van, parked outside their headquarters. They jokingly stated, ‘We’ve questioned the owners of the vehicle, but no solid leads yet. Continue to be on the lookout for shady caretakers and don’t meddle if you see the suspect.’ Could this bizarre event be some viral marketing for the upcoming live-action Scooby-Doo series on Netflix? After all, the show is set to follow the beloved gang of Shaggy, Daphne, Velma, and Freddy as they investigate a supernatural murder at a summer camp. Who knows, maybe they’ll encounter a mysterious thief in a Scooby costume!
