Pragmata Gameplay Preview: What We Know So Far

Capcom’s Spotlight Showcase 2025 kicked off with an exciting look at the upcoming game Pragmata. This deep dive revealed more about the game’s hacking-shooting-puzzle mechanics, as well as additional details on the storyline. Set in a futuristic lunar base, players will follow the journey of Hugh Williams, an astronaut on a mission to investigate a mysterious communications blackout. Alongside him is Diana, a curious and enigmatic android who plays a crucial role in the game.

Hugh, known for his occasional sarcasm, is the human counterpart to Diana’s fascinatingly human-like, heartful nature.

The gameplay revolves around two primary components: hacking and combat. To damage enemies, players must rely on Diana to hack into their armor. This involves a puzzle where players connect two green nodes on a five-by-five grid, trying to pass through as many blue nodes as possible. Only once this is completed can Hugh engage in third-person ranged combat, taking on enemies who are slowly advancing toward him.

In Pragmata, every battle is a race against time. You must complete the puzzle before enemies can get too close and deal damage. As the game progresses and you face multiple foes, the strategy shifts to prioritizing who to defeat first while managing your resources and movement. Fortunately, Hugh also has a helpful set of thrusters, perfect for both combat evasion and platforming around the lunar station’s environment.

Though the release date for Pragmata is still up in the air, with the game scheduled to launch sometime in 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, Capcom has confirmed that attendees of Gamescom 2025 will be able to experience it firsthand. At this year’s Summer Game Fest 2025, Wccftech’s Kai Tatsumoto got to play a brief demo of the game and praised its intuitive combat system. “The hacking minigame involves bypassing traps, collecting nodes, and targeting the enemy core. It all flows very naturally,” said Tatsumoto.
