Ubisoft Says Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake Is Still Deep in Development

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is still happening-but it’s taking its sweet time. Ubisoft recently reassured fans via the official Prince of Persia X account that the long-awaited remake is “deep in development,” though they didn’t offer anything concrete beyond a vague promise of dedication and caffeine-fueled creativity.

“We’re still deep in the game-exploring, building, and ensuring the sands move with purpose,” Ubisoft posted, emphasizing the passion of the development team.

Accompanying the message was a fresh piece of concept art showing a familiar building exterior from the original game, a nostalgic nod for long-time fans.

The remake, originally announced in 2020 and rebooted after initial backlash over visuals, now has a tentative release window ending in March 2026. Yes, it’s been that long. Ubisoft reportedly scrapped the original Indian studio version after it failed to meet expectations and handed the reins to their Montreal team. Since then, info has been drip-fed-at best.

To tide fans over, Ubisoft pointed to The Rogue Prince of Persia, a side-scrolling roguelike currently available. However, that game has also drawn criticism for being a far cry from what fans truly want: a faithful remake of the 2003 classic that balances nostalgia with polish.

Speculation continues to swirl online. Some fans believe Ubisoft lost access to original assets or that internal mismanagement forced repeated reboots. Others suspect the project has become bloated with modern design tropes, only to be gutted later-leaving a project in limbo.

Whatever the case, the lack of any real showcase, especially at major events like Summer Game Fest or even a dedicated Ubisoft Forward in 2025, doesn’t inspire confidence. While Ubisoft insists on quality and heart, fans are left wondering if they’ll ever get to rewind time to the moment this remake finally gets it right.
