A fresh twist on the Resident Evil franchise is on the way-this time in the form of a mobile real-time strategy game titled Resident Evil: Survival Unit. Set to launch on both iPhone and Android, the game is being co-developed by Capcom and Korea’s Joycity Corporation, the team behind Pirates of the Caribbean: Tides of War.
According to the developers, this spin-off is being created in close partnership with Capcom to maintain the series’ core feel and lore authenticity.
While a full reveal is expected on July 10 via a special YouTube showcase, a teaser image already dropped hints at the game’s grim atmosphere. It features a shadowy forest scene with a mysterious vehicle parked beside a worn-out billboard advertising the Umbrella Corporation-yes, that Umbrella Corp-with the chilling tagline: “Our Business is life itself…”
The presence of Umbrella strongly implies that Survival Unit is set before the collapse of the corporation in Resident Evil 4. The backdrop even teases what could be the Arklay Mountains, near Raccoon City-the origin of many of the franchise’s darkest moments.
Gameplay-wise, fans can expect a tactical RTS experience where players command various STARS units, managing their survival and pushing them through dangerous missions. These teams, composed of characters beloved by longtime fans, will likely be at the heart of the game’s strategy, with resource management and timing playing a key role.
The game is being published by Aniplex, a Sony-owned anime and entertainment company, and will be released across Japan, South Korea, North America, Europe, and other parts of Asia.
Whether you’re a die-hard Resident Evil veteran or a curious newcomer, Survival Unit promises to revisit the horror roots of the series in a new and intriguing format. With Capcom doubling down on familiar settings like Raccoon City in upcoming projects like Resident Evil Requiem, it seems like the perfect moment to look back at where it all began-this time, with a tactical twist.
