Samsung is making great strides with the Android 16 rollout, and it’s not just about flagship devices. The company is already testing the Android 16 firmware for the Galaxy A56, hinting that this mid-range phone could be among the first non-flagship models to get the update.
This is based on early firmware builds discovered on Samsung’s servers, showing that the development process is already well underway.
While One UI 7’s rollout last year received some criticism for being slow, Samsung seems determined to speed things up this time. By the summer, Android 16 will be near completion, with Samsung working closely with Google to ensure a faster update process. The Galaxy A56, despite not being part of the limited beta program for the Galaxy S25 series, has already shown early signs of getting Android 16 sooner than expected.
Samsung’s focus this time is to avoid the delays that plagued earlier rollouts. The Galaxy A56, which is not part of the beta program, is already showing signs of getting the update faster than other mid-range phones. It’s expected to be one of the first to receive One UI 8 shortly after it lands on the company’s foldables.
So, what can users expect from One UI 8? While there’s no complete redesign like its predecessor, the update offers several subtle design changes. Button styles in Samsung apps have been refined for a more polished look. One UI 8 builds on Android 16’s improvements, with added Galaxy S25 exclusives like the “Now Brief” AI assistant, which suggests actions based on your habits, and support for log video recording in the camera app.
Additionally, Samsung Internet has been revamped, Samsung DeX display support has been improved, and Quick Share file sharing is now smoother than ever. As for compatibility, nearly all Samsung phones launched from 2023 onward, including the A56, are eligible for One UI 8, though the update will first hit flagship models. However, mid-range phones like the A56 won’t be far behind.
The discovery of the firmware for the A56 also backs up earlier reports suggesting Samsung is developing a U.S. version of the phone, even though it hasn’t yet made its way to American stores. With a price tag around $499, the A56 offers solid specs, and its release timing may be planned to avoid overlap with the Galaxy S24 FE’s debut.
