Samsung Faces Accusations of Design Copying from Apple

Last month, Samsung unveiled its new range of tech devices, including foldable phones, smartwatches, and wireless earbuds.
However, the excitement was overshadowed by accusations of design plagiarism from Apple.

Following the launch, allegations surfaced that Samsung had mimicked Apple’s design with products like the Galaxy Buds 3, Galaxy Buds 3 Pro, and the Galaxy Watch Ultra. Samsung’s Chief Lee reportedly expressed anger at the mobile division for these claims of design imitation.

According to reports, Samsung Electronics Chairman Jay Y. Lee intervened, directing the mobile division to revisit its plans. This action came after criticism that the Galaxy Buds 3 series and Galaxy Watch Ultra resembled Apple’s AirPods and Apple Watch Ultra.

Elements like stems on the earbuds and boxy designs on the watch drew comparisons to Apple’s products, disappointing long-time Samsung fans. Even quality control issues with the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro added to the company’s woes, leading to strict orders from Lee to address these concerns.

The media scrutiny further intensified at a media briefing in South Korea, where questions about the similarities between Samsung’s new devices and Apple’s were raised continuously. This prompted tensions within the Samsung MX division, with repercussions expected for the employees involved in the design process.

While it’s common for companies to draw inspiration from competitors, the extent of replication seen in Samsung’s recent offerings has sparked controversy, necessitating a comprehensive review within the company’s mobile experience division.
