Samsung Confirms Free Galaxy AI Features, But Google’s AI Could Cost You

Samsung has put an end to the confusion surrounding which Galaxy AI features will remain free. While many wondered if some of the features would eventually require a subscription, Samsung has clarified the situation. The company confirmed to Android Police that all Galaxy AI features developed by Samsung, which come pre-installed on your phone, will be available for free indefinitely.

This includes features like Audio Eraser, Object Eraser, Note Assist, Generative Wallpapers, Live Translate, Writing Assist, and more.

These tools are not just handy but also part of the core experience, so it’s reassuring to know they won’t be locked behind a paywall. However, Samsung’s collaboration with Google has introduced another set of AI features powered by Gemini. These tools, like Gemini Advanced, are not under Samsung’s control, and while they’re free for now, there’s a chance that some of them might eventually require a paid subscription.

Samsung’s legal caution is evident in their announcement of Galaxy AI’s free period being limited to a certain timeframe. This likely reflects the need to avoid potential legal issues that could arise from charging users for something they were previously told would be free. Furthermore, Samsung might expand its AI suite by partnering with other companies, potentially bringing more advanced tools-but some of these could carry a cost.

What’s great is that, no matter what happens, Samsung’s in-house AI features will remain completely free, ensuring that users get value from their phones without having to worry about unexpected charges.

I don’t even use Google’s AI on my Galaxy. Just the Samsung stuff. Good to know it’ll stay free
