Samsung’s latest custom Android skin, One UI 8, is based on Android 16 and is already available to the Galaxy S25 series through a beta program in select markets.
But when can we expect older, lower-end Galaxy devices to get their hands on it? The Samsung Galaxy A55 is one of the devices that may receive this update, and it could come as early as the end of 2025.
The Galaxy A55, with the model number SM-A556E, was spotted on Geekbench running Android 16, suggesting that Samsung is actively working on One UI 8 for this Exynos 1480-powered smartphone. While the Galaxy A55 is still running One UI 7 based on Android 15 for now, it seems that a beta program for One UI 8 could launch in the next few months, and the stable release might arrive before the end of 2025.
Samsung’s approach with One UI 8 is expected to be relatively swift, especially considering the substantial overhaul brought by One UI 7. Some users have expressed mixed opinions about the stability of previous updates, with reports of issues like app bugs and performance inconsistencies, but the feedback has been more positive with newer versions like One UI 6.
For those looking forward to new features, One UI 8 is expected to deliver faster animations, improved fluidity, and more efficient battery usage, at least for users of the S25 series who have already seen stable updates. The inclusion of Android 16’s desktop mode might be less relevant for the Galaxy A55, given the hardware capabilities, but users can still look forward to performance optimizations.
In the meantime, Samsung Galaxy A55 users will have to make do with One UI 7, but it’s reassuring to know that updates are on the horizon. The growing popularity of the One UI 8 beta test is likely to build anticipation for the stable release across various Galaxy models, including those in the A-series.
