Samsung’s Galaxy Flip 7 is here, and while it doesn’t totally revolutionize the flip phone world, its carefully planned upgrades make it a standout.
I’ve had the chance to spend some hands-on time with it, and there’s a lot to love about this tactical improvement.
Cover Screen Gets Bigger and Better
The biggest change on the Galaxy Flip 7 is the expanded cover screen. Now measuring 4.1” compared to the previous 3.4”, the display is surrounded by incredibly thin bezels (just 1.25mm). This shift from a screen that almost covered the entire front to one that truly maximizes the available space is a game-changer. It gives the phone a fresh, modern look, leaving the Flip 6’s design looking a bit old-fashioned by comparison.
But size isn’t everything. The cover screen now supports a 120Hz refresh rate and an impressive 2600 nits of peak brightness, making it just as fluid and easy to use as the main display. It’s also a breeze to use outdoors, with better visibility and a smoother experience.
Samsung has made sure the cover screen isn’t just bigger but more functional. You now have access to the ‘Now Bar’ and ‘Gemini Live’ right from the cover, with the added bonus of using the main camera alongside Gemini Live. This could be a fun feature for checking your outfit and getting style suggestions, although it’s hard to say how many people will actually use it for that.
A Wider Main Screen
Moving to the inside, the Galaxy Flip 7’s main screen has grown slightly as well, now 6.9 inches (up from 6.7”) and adopting a 21:9 aspect ratio. The Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel remains stunning, with a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 2600 nits, just like the cover screen.
The Flip 7 is also the thinnest foldable phone yet, thanks to a 30% slimmer hinge and a reworked camera module. The phone’s profile is now just 6.5mm when open, making it more comfortable to hold and more practical to use.
Improved Cameras and Bigger Battery
The Galaxy Flip 7 features a 50MP main camera that captures sharper details and performs better in low-light conditions, thanks to the upgraded ProVisual Engine. You also get a 12MP ultra-wide camera and a 10MP front camera for selfies. Speaking of selfies, if you own a Flip, you should definitely use the main camera instead-it’ll give you a better experience overall.
Another cool addition is the Auto Zoom feature, perfect for vlogging or capturing yourself in motion. It helps keep you centered in the frame without having to adjust it manually.
Battery life also gets a boost. The Flip 7 comes with a 4300mAh battery, up from the previous 4000mAh in the Flip 6. Samsung claims this should last up to 31 hours of video playback, but we’ll need to see if that holds up during testing.
Final Thoughts
The Galaxy Flip 7 isn’t a radical redesign, but the thoughtful upgrades make it feel like a much more refined product. The larger, brighter cover screen, the improved main display, and new features like Auto Zoom make this phone a more practical foldable and an overall better smartphone.
And the best part? The price remains the same as the Flip 6, starting at $1100 for 256GB of storage and 12GB of RAM, which is a relief. It’s available for pre-order now, with shipping beginning on July 25. If you’re in the market for the Flip 7, keep an eye out for any deals from Samsung-they often offer great discounts.
