Samsung’s Galaxy S26 series is expected to launch in early 2026, and a recent report sheds light on the display sizes for the upcoming models. Surprisingly, the ‘Plus’ variant is missing from the lineup, suggesting Samsung might discontinue it in favor of an ‘Edge’ successor.
In past years, the ‘Plus’ variant has sat comfortably between the base model and the ultra-premium version, but now, the company may change its strategy.
According to The Elec, Samsung is developing three models: the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26 Edge, and Galaxy S25 Ultra. The base model will feature a 6.27-inch display, while the S26 Edge will sport a 6.66-inch screen. The flagship Ultra model will have a large 6.89-inch display. Samsung is also reportedly adopting a similar strategy to Apple, which will discontinue the iPhone 17 Plus in favor of a new Air variant.
Samsung’s S25 Edge, despite its sleek design with a thickness of just 5.8mm, comes with trade-offs, such as a smaller 3,900mAh battery and only two rear cameras. However, advanced computational techniques have allowed the S25 Edge to outperform the Ultra model at 4x zoom, and even produce better results than the iPhone’s 5x zoom using sensor crop. But many argue that more sensors and improved hardware would be better than relying on software alone to compensate for limited camera capabilities.
Despite these features, the S25 Edge hasn’t been flying off the shelves, which raises questions about whether Samsung should continue its Plus variant strategy. The Elec, however, isn’t always spot-on with its product launch reports, so we recommend taking this with a grain of salt. Still, the potential discontinuation of the Galaxy S26 Plus remains an intriguing topic.
