Samsung may be gearing up for a major shake-up in its flagship smartphone lineup. Recent rumors suggest the company will ditch its traditional Galaxy S26 and S26+ models in favor of a fresh trio: the Galaxy S26 Pro, S26 Edge, and S26 Ultra.
If true, this shift aligns with a broader industry trend toward more premium branding, with Samsung potentially following Apple’s lead by removing “Plus” models in favor of slimmer, fancier versions.
The rumor allegedly stems from an internal One UI 8 build leak, hinting that the standard ‘vanilla’ model may be reborn as the “Pro,” while the Edge steps in for the Plus. The Ultra, as usual, remains at the top. However, it’s the absence of a traditional base model that’s raising eyebrows-and stirring debate.
With this change, Samsung could be rebranding more than just names-it might signal a pricing strategy shift too. Introducing a “Pro” implies enhanced specs and, naturally, a higher price tag. If the Pro becomes the new entry point, it might push the Galaxy S series out of sub-$900 territory entirely.
But not everyone is convinced. Some users believe Samsung won’t abandon the base model entirely, speculating that the Galaxy S26 FE could step in as the affordable option. Others see this rebranding effort as an identity crisis-Samsung trying too hard to emulate Apple and Chinese competitors like Xiaomi and Vivo, leading to brand dilution rather than innovation.
There’s also concern over functionality versus form. Users argue that instead of tweaking names, Samsung should focus on practical upgrades like better cameras, improved thermals, and maintaining compact models for those who value size and simplicity.
Whether this revamped lineup becomes a reality remains to be seen, but if it does, it could mark a pivotal moment in Samsung’s mobile strategy. Just don’t expect everyone to be thrilled about it.
