Samsung’s Dilemma: S Pen vs. Bigger Battery in Galaxy S26 Ultra

Samsung is facing a tough decision with its iconic S Pen. Recently, the company announced that it would remove Bluetooth from the S Pen on the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Now, rumors are swirling that the S Pen could be removed altogether on the Galaxy S26 Ultra.

It seems that Samsung is leaning toward this move, but they are hesitant due to the potential backlash from loyal users who love the pen.

According to industry insiders, Samsung is considering replacing the S Pen with a larger battery in the Galaxy S26 Ultra. While this may be a welcomed upgrade for users craving more battery life, it’s a risky move. The S Pen has become a hallmark of Samsung’s flagship devices, and taking it away could upset many customers who see it as a defining feature of the Galaxy Ultra series.

Samsung justified removing Bluetooth functionality from the S Pen, claiming that very few users ever took advantage of it. Even so, the company faced significant backlash when this feature was cut. The concern now is that removing the pen entirely could alienate users who value it. While some fans may appreciate the extra battery space, others would prefer the pen’s presence on the device.

Personally, if I had to choose, I’d opt for keeping the S Pen over a bigger battery. While Samsung’s battery practices are often criticized, removing the S Pen is not the solution. Instead, Samsung should focus on adopting denser battery technologies and stop prioritizing slimmer designs year after year. With companies like Apple and Samsung emphasizing form over function with their latest releases, it feels like the needs of users are being overlooked in favor of thinness.

If Samsung does go ahead with ditching the S Pen, they will lose another iconic feature that sets them apart from the competition. The Moto G Stylus may be a competitor, but it doesn’t come close to the brand recognition Samsung has built with its stylus. The S Pen is unique to Samsung, and removing it could mean saying goodbye to one of the most beloved features of the Galaxy Ultra series.
